Julia, Holland is a 'wet' country with a lot of brooks and ponds for a child to fall in and children need to be able to swim during emergency situations. There's a very strong swimming culture here and Dutch children learn to swim at a very young age (there's a 1 to 2 year waiting list to enroll swimming class). S

I should bring my 3 year old over and let you guys teach her - having some problems with swimming here .
Now that you mention it, I don't know why this isn't taught in Florida - the big fear here is kids falling into swimming pools when no one is around.
